Food is something that excites most of us, especially when it comes to Goan food. The Goan cuisine offers a wide variety right from veg to non-veg.

 GOAN FISH THALI


The Goan Fish Thali is a must try when in Goa. It is one of the most famous Goan Cuisine. people long to eat the Goan Thali. 

Served on a ornate Silver Thali, the Goan Thali comprises of Prawn Curry, Goan Rice, a Fried Fillet of Kingfish or a fish of your choice, Clam Sukhem (Dry),  Crab Xecxec, Dry Prawn Kismoor, a Vegetable, Salad and Sol Kadhi (made of Kokum and Coconut Milk.

  


Though Goan Cuisine is incomplete without Fish but it also carters to the Vegetarians. The Veg Thali consist of Goan Rice, Bhakri, Goan Daali Thoy, Kele Ambat (Plantain Gravy), Dal (lentils), a Vegetable, Salad, Papad, Pickle, and Sol Kadhi.

Another famous Goan Dish is the CHICKEN CAFREAL. Chicken Cafreal is a traditional dish of Goa. It is a dry chicken dish cooked in a green marinade with fresh herbs and spices. The preparation originated from the Portuguese colonies. The green marinade is made of coriander leaves, spices, lime juice, vinegar, chilies, garlic and ginger. The dish is usually served as a starter in Goan Restaurants.  

CHICKEN CAFREAL



Looking for a snack? Then you should definitely try the Ros Omelet . Also known as Ras Omelet is a snack as well as a street food in the Goan Cuisine. Ros means Gravy in Konkani. It is a spicy gravy of of either chicken or chickpeas which is often similar to Xacuti which is commonly seen in the Catholic style of cooking. The  Ros is cooked separately and then the hot Ros is poured over the freshly fried omelet and served with the Goan Bread (Pav).

PATOLI / PATOLEO


Patoleo are stuffed turmeric leaf wraps a dish mostly prepared on the western coast of India. The stuffing is made of grated coconut, rice and jaggery. it is cooked by wrapping and steaming in turmeric leaves. Often accompanied by tea or hot beverages. 

By the Hindus its prepared on the 2nd Sunday of Shravan , on Nag Panchami and on Hartalika, the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi.

 By the Catholics it is prepared on the feats of Assumption Of The Blessed Virgin Mary which falls on the 15th of August.  Villages across Goa celebrate Konsachen Fest (Harvest Festival). It is also prepared on the Feast of Sao Joao (Nativity Of St. John The Baptist) which falls on the 24th of June.
